Robert Yehling
Founder • President

I have dedicated the past 40 years to the writing craft, beginning as a 17-year-old sportswriter and music reviewer in Southern California. In 1996, I founded Word Journeys to assist other writers and authors achieve their publishing dreams. There is nothing I love more than to see a writer’s eyes light up when their book drops – or when they realize they’ve nailed their voice and story. It’s golden… and it’s our goal at Word Journeys Literary Services.

I am a multiple award-winning author, journalist, ghostwriter, editor, educator, and marketing and public relations consultant. I’ve helped hundreds of authors publish their books and stories in all fiction and non-fiction genres. My popular writing workshops, keynote speeches and classes have been attended by thousands at writers conferences, festivals, libraries, corporate communications seminars, learning centers, high schools and colleges nationally.

As a service provider, I provide a concept-to-publish approach,  taking authors through all stages of the book writing process — and then switching gears to focus on getting the book published. We work with literary agents, traditional publishers, and only the best hybrid publishers and self-publishing services on behalf of Word Journeys clients.

We also focus on all-important marketing, promotion and public relations. We network with top digital and traditional PR and marketing firms to assure authors the best possible results for their books and brand.

As an author, I have written, co-written or ghostwritten more than 20 books, including Voices, the Dollie Gray Award-winning Just Add Water, and the Independent Publishers Book Award-winning combo of Writes of Life and The Write Time. Ghostwriting efforts include Crawl of Fame, for Ironman triathlon legend Julie Moss; When We Were The Boys, for former Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger lead guitarist Stevie Salas, and much of Blockbusting, for legendary filmmaker George Lucas.

Currently the executive editor of STEM Today and Sustainability Today magazines, and founding editor of Innovation & Tech Today, I have written more than 1,800 articles for over 50 consumer and trade titles. I’ve profiled and worked with Olympic gold medalists, Apollo astronauts, Fortune 500 executives, Rock & Roll, Major League Baseball and NFL Hall of Famers, medical and fitness innovators, authors, filmmakers, and more. I’m a 3-time Sigma Delta Chi journalism award winner.

Melissa Jenkins

Project Editor

I offer my diverse publishing and editing background to Word Journeys Literary Services spanning the past two decades. My writing and editing work covers all forms of print media — newspapers, magazines and books. My journalism career began in high school, serving as a reporter and feature writer for the Paducah Sun. In 1998, I was named Assistant to the Editor at Faircount International, a wide-ranging magazine publisher in Tampa, FL.

Later, I shifted into working with books and authors. I was a contributing poet and the Assistant Editor of Freedom of Vision (Oculus Publishing: 2008). I also organized and edited the Independent Publishers award-winning The Write Time: 366 Exercises for Your Writing Life, written by Robert Yehling. When you love reading books and appreciate well-told stories with distinctive voices as much as I do, you can bet I pour my knowledge and heart into all the work that crosses our desk.
